ACC rankings
-
1

Duke (No. 2 in the Top 25)
1-0Duke beat Army 84-50 and never looked threatened. Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje, the youngest player in Division I at 17, made his debut. The Blue Devils are still the team to beat in the ACC until someone proves otherwise.
-
2

Louisville (No. 7 in the Top 25)
1-0Louisville led Chattanooga 56-35 at halftime, then went without a field goal for the final 4:13 of an 84-70 win. Flory Bidunga scored 16 in his debut. The Cardinals will want to watch Karter Knox, who limped off late.
-
3

Virginia (No. 10 in the Top 25)
1-0Virginia’s 89-60 win over Drexel was the most complete performance in the league on opening week. The Cavaliers forced 15 turnovers in the first half alone. If that defense holds up, they’ll be pushing Duke for the top spot.
-
4

Miami (FL) (No. 18 in the Top 25)
0-1Losing 77-67 to No. 1 Florida is nothing to be ashamed of, and Acaden Lewis was terrific with 24 points. The Hurricanes need more from Shelton Henderson, Malik Reneau and Caleb Gaskins, who went a combined 4-of-23. Their next chance at a statement win is hosting Alabama in the SEC/ACC Challenge on Dec. 2.
-
5

NC State
1-0Justin Gainey got his first win as head coach, 83-64 over Campbell, thanks to a 23-3 run in the first half. Ven-Allen Lubin had 20 points on 8-of-8 shooting with 10 rebounds. That’s the kind of game the Wolfpack need from him every night.
-
6

Notre Dame
1-0A fantastic win for Notre Dame over Villanova propels them up in the ACC rankings. Can they back it up against tougher competition like Florida and Vanderbilt?
-
7

Clemson
1-0Clemson led Stetson by 25 at halftime and won 85-72. Ace Buckner scored a career-high 20 and Dylan Faulkner had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Giving up 48 points in the second half is a warning sign ahead of the Maui Invitational.
-
8

North Carolina
1-0A shaky win against Western Carolina hurt UNC in this week's ranking, they will need to get their act together to succeed in the ACC this year.
-
9

Pittsburgh
1-0Pitt crushed Rider 96-57. Freshman Chase Foster scored 23, the most ever by a Pitt freshman in his first game. If Foster keeps that up, the Panthers could be a surprise team in the league.
-
10

Florida State
1-0Year two under Luke Loucks started with a 112-69 rout of Florida A&M. Colorado transfer Sebastian Rancik scored a career-high 25, and six Seminoles reached double figures. The opponent was weak, but the depth was real.
-
11

Virginia Tech
1-0The Hokies beat Coppin State 88-54. Transfer Jaylen Curry scored 19 but had 6 turnovers, which Mike Young called “disgusting.” Taking care of the ball will matter much more once ACC play starts.
-
12

SMU
1-0Jakub Szumert carried SMU past Southern 85-72 with 27 points and 7 rebounds. The Mustangs will need more scorers to step up against better teams.
-
13

Syracuse
1-0Gerry McNamara won his first game as head coach, 74-58 over New Haven, in front of 23,283 fans in the Dome. Gavin Doty and Sadiq White Jr. both had double-doubles. New Haven shot 59% in the second half, so the defense still has work to do.
-
14

Boston College
1-0Luke Murray’s tenure started with a comfortable 76-50 win over Wagner. It’s a nice first step for a program trying to climb out of the bottom of the league.
-
15

Wake Forest
1-0Gavin Placide scored 20 as Wake beat Maryland Eastern Shore 83-62. The first real test comes quickly: a trip to Vanderbilt on Thursday.
-
16

Georgia Tech
1-0Scott Cross’s Yellow Jackets handled Hampton 75-55 without much drama. We’ll learn more about this team once the schedule gets tougher.
-
17

Stanford
1-0Stanford got past Eastern Washington 74-65 behind 17 points from Julius Price. It was a closer game than the Cardinal would have liked.
-
18

California
1-0Cal opened with a win over Division II Adams State, which tells us the least of any ACC opener. Tonight’s game against Radford should be a better measuring stick.
